Karen Ødemark

Karen Ødemark
‘Embrace’ production at the Buxton Festival Fringe and the
Third Floor Arts Centre, Portsmouth

An actress-deviser, writer, educator and physical performer, Karen is a highly skilled and diverse creative artist. She is an experienced solo performer, who is interested in the use of media and puppetry in her work. Her passions lie in creating experimental theatre and live art happenings that challenge, question and educate.

Karen is the co-founder of ‘fumotskai’, a Norwegian-based performance company that aims to act as a stepping stone for emerging artists of all disciplines. ‘fumotskai’ artists are able to collaborate, develop and experiment with new ideas within a performance laboratory. Previous projects have addressed notions of identity, the vulnerability of the self in today’s society and the acts of human behaviour.

Following her graduation from Rose Bruford College, she returned to her native Norway and has recently qualified as tutor of the performing arts and theatre communication, where she inspires and educates performers through her skill base as a performer and deviser. Karen believes in continually developing her theatre practice and training and widely influenced by her studies in European Theatre Arts. Her work is research-based and is currently inspired by the techniques of Grotowski, Barba and the mise-en-scène of Pina Bausch.
